Carl Sheerin :

My gourd art incorporates a strong Native American influence that stems from my Cherokee heritage.  I also have a strong liking for abstraction and related concepts.  When I begin a gourd piece, I think about what life was like on the reservation and in the Wild West and compare it with today’s world. I use the combination of these thoughts and ideas to develop an artistic style of my own.  As for my abstract paintings, they flow freely as I am designing and painting them.  The art is within me and it comes out through the brush.  Most of the time, I follow an artistic and creative spirit.

Self-taught in color theory, concepts and abstraction, Carl studied art at Lansing Community College in Michigan and design theory in Denver, CO.  Carl Sheerin was born in Sebawa, MI in 1941, a very small town in Ionia County, but grew up in the Lansing area.

Carl Sheerin’s artwork exhibited in numerous festivals in Florida, and he also had a solo exhibit at the Osceola County administration building.  Carl was featured on local TV stations in central Florida as well as a featured artist in the Orlando Sentinel (Life in Osceola).  He is a participating artist in Gallery One Artists in Kissimmee, FL, House on Main in Royal Oak, MI, and the Forms Gallery in Delray Beach, FL.  Reviews have included praises such as ‘Incredible’ and ‘Phenomenal.’
